What Four Keywords would best describe your company?

answer
  1. Learning Tech
  2. Software
  3. Delightful
  4. Empathetic

What are your core company values?

Rustici Software is first and foremost a collection of people who want to work here. This place is remarkable in that Rustici offers many freedoms, ranging from flexible hours and vacation schedules to concierge services. But more than that, Rustici Software is remarkable because everyone here cares more about living up to the expectations of their co-workers than just about anything else. We understand that the problems we help customers solve are hard. Getting systems and content to play nicely together takes patience and an attention to detail that we embrace. We approach every interaction with customers, prospects and each other with empathy. We strive to bring delight to each conversation and provide the right mix of practicality and precision to help learning technologies play nicely together.

What is your company doing to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion?

We continue to look for ways to broaden our reach when it comes to recruiting and job postings. In our employees and all people, we value and support the whole person, whomever they choose to be. We’re critical of each others’ work, but never each others’ selves. We’re inclusive, and we always will be.

Describe your workplace vibe.

We treat each other with compassion and strive to always assume positive intent. We are an empathetic group and support each other. We also want you to be you and share with us the things that make you unique. It’s common to find us choosing to spend lunches together. It’s not because you can’t take a lunch break from the office (or screen), but because we enjoy talking about things other than work and spending time together.

Where are some common places employees be found after work hours (pre-pandemic)?

We have to be honest, we do a lot of really fun things together outside of the daily work hours. We have monthly game nights and once a year, we arrange a company co-vacationing skiing trip. Outside of work, we’re a pretty diverse group and can be found in many places doing a wide variety of things. You might find a Rustician in the wild at one of the following:
  • On the soccer fields coaching or at a NSC match
  • Loading up on the latest release at Game Stop
  • Training for medieval games
  • Combing a farmer’s market for some culinary magic
  • Escaping to the wilderness or fly fishing
  • Cultivating a vegetable garden
  • Racking up some miles on a bike somewhere
  • Hitting the slopes (near or far)
  • Catching live music somewhere

What do you like best about your Tennessee office location?

We’re totally spoiled at the office with a fully stocked kitchen, a handful of different and fun co-working spaces with comfortable seating options, private offices for everyone and a big patio area complete with a grill and bocce/chess court. We also have added some personal touches and quirky decor to the space. What started as an inside joke somehow became our official company mascot, and if you ever tour our office, you’ll see a few bears throughout.

What’s the most Nashville thing about your company?

When you have enough coworkers who are also musicians to have a battle of the bands.

What are some popular spots for team outings?

Throughout the year, you’ll find us anywhere from Top Golf to the local goat yoga studio. Our photo albums highlight some of our larger company events. You’ll see a bunch labeled, “Quell.” Quell is a week-long company event consisting of all-company meetings about the state of the business and fun all-company events. What’s the most exciting thing about being part of the Nashville tech industry?

The growth! When we started back in 2002, the tech industry in Nashville definitely played second (or third fiddle) to Healthcare and other more prominent industries. It’s exciting to see Nashville become a leading tech city with companies like Amazon, Oracle and others setting up shop here.

How do you foster creativity, collaboration, and inclusion?

We enjoy a good debate and incorporating the ideas and expertise of many only helps us all improve. Everyone is here because they bring knowledge and skills to the table. Having an opinion and the desire to educate others is critical to being successful here. A healthy argument can go a long way. Being open to sharing, and listening, helps us all find a path to the best result.

Describe your company's impact on the Nashville tech scene. How are you fostering its growth?

Rustici participates in various local events and we embrace the development of tech talent in the area. We often hire new graduates from local schools and have been excited to see the local tech programs growing.

How have you created a modern structure that meets your employees’ diverse work styles?

Rustici Software offers many freedoms including flexible hours and working from home schedules. We say give us your best 40 hours (nothing more or nothing less) so working around increased traffic, kids drop-off/pickup times, doctor’s appointments, home deliveries, etc. are all doable. Our office in Franklin is available for anyone to work from, as they choose. And we have people that have moved away from TN but continue to work with us remotely. We simply ask you to communicate with your team on where and when you work.
