Give Thnks: Franklin tech business celebrates 1 million gestures of gratitude

“Every month we have what we call ‘thanks day,'” said Brendan Kamm. “Most recently we hooked up with Youth Village, which provides foster care for young girls without a home, and while they were in school one day we did their entire landscaping.”Kamm is the CEO and co-founder of Thnks, a Franklin-based digital gratitude platform that has proven building a habit of gratitude in corporate culture can be done. The company helps other businesses strengthen relationships and grow faster by assisting them in sending small gestures of appreciation to their employees and customers.”We let them do things like send a cup of coffee to someone over email, or text message them an Uber ride because it is raining out,” Kamm said.

Earlier this month, the company announced that over 1 million “Thnks” were sent in the past year, with over 10,000 sent each week.

According to a news release about the accomplishment, gratitude can help companies “from supporting employee morale and retention to fostering client relationships, engagement, and loyalty to better prospecting for sales.” Thnks’ technology uses program analytics, compliance adherence and the “science of gratitude.”

Kamm and Founder and Executive Chairman Larry Rubin are both amazed by how far the business has come.

“Brendan and I pinch each other every now and then because we literally sat in a room with nothing more than an idea and begging people for a few dollars to figure out how to make that idea real,” Rubin said.

The company relocated from New York in 2020.

“Our business is about softness and hospitality and gratitude. We wanted to be someplace that embraces those qualities and let us be a part of the community,” Kamm said.

Both men saw Franklin as a place for opportunity.

In 2020, the company began its year with 12 employees. Currently, the company has 40.

“Part of the reason we chose here was, you got such great education, great schools and people you can recruit. What we found is when you put out a job opening, we have applicants from Chicago, New York, Atlanta, LA. People want to come to Nashville and Tennessee, and it’s really helped us find a diverse workforce,” Kamm said.

In 2022, both founders hope their business will continue to grow and have a broader impact.
